This is an FDA approved procedure for the treatment of Double chin. It is an injectable procedure that melts the fat in the double chin area.
The active ingredient is Deoxycholic acid, which is a naturally occurring compound produced in the liver that breaks down fat. Synthetically produced Deoxycholic acid is injected into the double chin area. The procedure takes approximately 15-20 minutes and does not require anesthesia. A topical numbing cream may be applied if necessary.
Depending on the amount of fat under the chin, anywhere between 1- 5 sessions, 1 month apart may be needed.
Some amount of swelling is to expected after the procedure, which settles over a period of 3-7 days. The results are permanent, as the destruction of fat cells is permanent, unless the patient puts on weight and hence fat under the chin.
